Last weekend, Zach and I drove to Cincinnati to meet-up with family for a college football game. We were preoccupied with game festivities Friday and Saturday, so Sunday was our dedicated exploration day.
After the excitement of game day, we wanted a chance to slow down, see some of the city, and enjoy the gorgeous weather.
So, as every Sunday should, we started with donuts – Holman’s Donuts (on Vine Street) to be specific! I’d heard they were great donuts but isn’t that what everyone says about all donut places?
Well, I was not disappointed. Not only is this a super cute little donut shop (where you can watch them make new batches while you stand in line!), the staff was so nice, and the donuts really were so good.
What started off as “maybe we’ll each get two” turned into a divine assorted box of donut goodness…they all just looked too good to pass up!
On our way back to the car, we passed the cutest home décor shop with a “sale” sign in their window so we obviously had to go in and browse. If you find yourself in the area, definitely pop into Elm & Iron – they had a great assortment of novelty home goods and would be a great place to shop for gifts.
The weather was so nice that we decided that we just had to eat our sugary breakfast outside. My original plan was to go to the Ohio River Trail with views of the Roebling Bridge, but the Bengals were playing so there was zero parking around there.
Instead we ended up at Washington Park – a beautiful little park nestled in the city…
…where we found a lovely place to sit and ate as many donuts as our stomachs would allow.
Note: If you’re a dog person, Washington Park is a must. There’s a really nice dog park area and half the people walking around had a dog with them – it was heaven for me and Zach who can’t have a dog of our own yet and therefor fawn over everyone we see.
Then it was off to Findlay Market. Almost every search I did before our trip camp up with recommendations to visit this market and as Ohio’s oldest continuously operated public market I could see why.
Along with the goods merchants, there’s also a great mix of food vendors so I do not recommend filling up on donuts (no matter how delicious) before visiting – learn from our rookie mistake, y’all.
And don’t forget to explore a little! There are some great shops and restaurants right around the market so don’t be afraid to wander.

Once it hit 2pm we had to hit the road and start our drive back home but if we’d had more time Mount Airy Forest, MadTree Brewing, Jungle Jim’s, and Graeter’s Ice Cream were all on my list.

All in all, it was a Sunday very well spent.
